2023 Parent Support Group Dialogue Session
The recent Parent Support Group dialogue session was an enriching and heartwarming event that brought together parents from our community to share their experiences, exchange valuable insights, and strengthen their support networks. This session was made even more special with the active participation of 3 dedicated volunteers from Nanyang Technological University, who assisted in engaging and entertaining the children, allowing parents to focus on the discussion.
The heart of the event was the discussion session. Parents were divided into smaller groups, each led by a Vision Teacher. Topics ranged from personal wellness, and resources for education and learning to active living as a family. Parents shared their personal stories, offered practical advice, and listened empathetically to each other’s concerns.
One of the highlights of this session was the active involvement of university volunteers. Our Teacher Assistants and the volunteers carried out a variety of engaging activities and games for the children in a separate area, ensuring they were safe and entertained throughout the morning. This allowed parents to participate in the discussions without worrying about their children’s well-being.
The Parent Support Group dialogue session was a success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of parents, the insights shared, and the invaluable assistance of university volunteers. This event reinforced the idea that parents of children who are visually impaired are not alone in the parenting journey and that we are building up a support system by establishing a Parent Support Group Main Committee team.
As we continue to share, learn, and empower each other, we look forward to future sessions that will further strengthen the support network between parents. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event. We are excited about what the future holds for our Parent Support Group!
