2021 Parent Support Group – Tertiary

A total of 25 parents and students signed up for our online parents support group talk on “Preparing your Portfolio for Post-Secondary and Tertiary Institutions” by Ms Sng Sok Hwee. Ms Sng has a master’s in counselling and has over 15 years of experience as a guidance counsellor in international and Singapore schools.

Ms Sng began by sharing with the participants how a portfolio should look and the components of an effective portfolio. She also shared some websites that parents and students can explore to discover more about the various occupations globally and look if one is desirous of new knowledge.

She then challenged both parents and students to look beyond the traditional definition of success. She wanted to see how they can explore their interests and gain transferable skills through experiential learning, emphasizing the importance of 21st Century skills – thinking critically, interacting with others, and staying relevant. This mindset is a dramatic shift focusing on strict academic excellence to flexibility and adaptability for some parents.

To some, this was a novel idea that threatened the very heart of their beliefs. Some parents came out strong in support of this new paradigm of thought. A few were silent and thoughtful, probably reflecting on exchange and their position. It was indeed a thought-provoking, self-reflecting session with Ms Sng.

She also shared how a portfolio should look like and the components of an effective portfolio.

2021 Haw Par Junior & Youth Athletics Meet

Meet Our Champions! Five of our athletes under the Athletics for VI programme with Coach Saravanan took part in the Haw Par Junior and Youth Athletics Meet, organised by Para-Athletics Singapore, on 20 March 2021.

Although most of them are not new to participating in track events, this was the first time the athletes took part in field events. The Juniors attempted the Run, Step, Jump, which was a modified version of the Long Jump, while our youth athletes tried the shot put event.

Despite being novices, all our athletes clinched the gold medals in their respective field events, thanks to the training from Coach Sarav. The final medal tally for iC2 is 10 Gold and 2 Bronze. Congratulations to all athletes. iC2 will continue to make sports a priority for our students.

2021 Lego Coding Workshop 2

Following the success of the Lego Coding Workshop 1, which was held in November 2020, participants were invited to attend the Lego Coding Workshop 2.

Like the earlier workshop, this is a specially designed programme organised by TechAble, and the workshop was also held at the Enabling Village.

Using Lego WeDo, participants were actively involved in STEM, learning about gears, and programming the script of a race car. The trainer, Annie, was able to excite the students, and challenge their inquiring minds to problem solve.

iC2 PrepHouse Limited hopes to have more of such programmes for teens as well as younger children to help them on their way to accessing STEM curriculum.

2021 Athletics Programme with Coach Saravanan (Season 1)

Part of the VI Athletics Programme includes resistance training to develop both upper and lower body strength. For this, Coach Saravanan has designed several resistance training exercises for our participants, including resistance band running. Participants had to exert force against the tension of their resistance bands that is anchored to the railing behind. The activity was individualized for each child, based on their age, ability, and fitness level. It was a great way to have each athlete challenge themselves to go farther and longer!
